Oral history interviews and transcripts chiefly conducted during the 1970s. Includes interviews with former students Paul Benson, Raymond R. Rund, and others, relating to Camp Depression, a program instituted (1933) at University of North Dakota which enabled students to work at various jobs in exchange for free housing; Agnes Greelan, mayor of Enderlin, N.D., concerning local politics, and her teaching career; Leroy Goodwater pertaining to early life in Grand Forks, N.D., including street-railroads, his duties with North Dakota National Guard in Mexico in 1916 and U.S. Army 164th Infantry Regiment during World War I, service with postal service in Grand Forks, and other activities; Harold Groth, of Inkster, N.D., pertaining to North Dakota Nonpartisan Leagues, railroads, and farming in Inkster during the Depression; and with various faculty members of the Dept. of History, University of North Dakota, including Elwyn Robinson and Robert Wilkins, recalling department and university history, books written, and other topics. Also includes interviews with Elsie Brown and Marian Meyers discussing Dr. Alice Hunter, a physician and farmer in Grand Forks in the 1920s; Frank Kelly, wildlife artist and college teacher, chiefly concerning Grand Forks Audubon Society, the Christmas bird count, Garrison Diversion Project, and his activities as a painter of birds; Merle Kidder reflecting on higher education in North Dakota; and William Koenker, vice president of academic affairs at the University of North Dakota, relating to various university programs, its history, and past college presidents.
